Give a Japanese twist to your event, without the need to wash up or carry home a large amount of plates and glasses. The tableware is suitable for hot and cold foods alike, oil- and water resistant, can be stored in the fridge and are even microwave-safe. They are quite possibly the most beautiful, comfortable and functional disposable ware in the field, and have been honored with several prestigious awards, among which, the Good Design Award, the All Design Awards and the Asian Award.
WASARA’s high quality design combines elegant, Japanese style, with convenience and care for the environment. Their ecological, disposable tableware is light, yet sturdy, with a minimalistic and classy design you often find in Japanese artworks. Their sustainable, compostable solution for functional and biodegradable disposable tableware has been a groundbreaking success in the international market.
Established in 2008 in Tokyo, WASARA (wa = Japanese, sara= dish) combined Japanese aesthetic with the spirit of traditional Japanese craftsmanship to create an innovative solution to impact the food and drink industry.
Their disposable tableware collection is unparalleled due to the high level of comfort, impeccable and elegant porcelain-like design, sturdy quality, and of course, biodegradable and compostable features, making it one of the best ecological responsible choices in their category. The tableware is not only biodegradable, but also completely free of trees! The products are made from reed pulp, renewable bamboo shoots and bagasse sugar cane – an agricultural waste product, otherwise burned. WASARA donates part of their sales profits to Eco Future Found, an NGO fighting for worldwide environmental education.
WASARA is now even discussing the possibility to provide their disposable tableware as an ecological solution for cruise ships and airlines.
The reed, bamboo and sugarcane pulp are poured into molds, dehydrated under heat and pressured with a machine to create unique shapes without any starch or glue. Focusing on texture, they ensure all the products a wavy, rather than most disposable ware’s bulky features. Cutting the edges like this, especially asymmetric, requires a lot of technical know-how and a specially-designed blade. The delicate, uneven designs are based on traditional Japanese pottery and paper crafts.
The designs are completely thought-through, with edges that allow a firm grip and balance on one hand, to a creative, yet efficient way the ware can be stacked together. Smart design allows the products to be even more versatile, for example, a cup’s handle that can also be used as a pouring spout, or cutlery that have a feature that allows them to balance on the side of your plate when you need one of your hands!
Products are unbleached, can take boiling liquids and will last for approximately six hours – more than enough time to finish your meal! Although the plates are thin as eggshells, they are study enough you can cut a steak on them without cutting through.
Enjoy these visually unforgettable designs at your party, picnic or business event, without either guilt, or the need to spend hours cleaning up!
Disposable tableware may not be the most economical or environmental in the long run, however, for designated parties and events that would otherwise require transportation and water.
WASARA creates a graceful solution based on minimal environmental burden.
