When deerskin meets lacquer

INDENYA has for many years been a big name in the Japanese craft and fashion industry.  

Founded in 1582, this unique company has a history of over four centuries and is still run by the same family from their hometown in Koshu; modern-day Yamanishi prefecture in central Japan. 

Deer skin is believed to be the preferred and primary source of leather used in Japan all the way back to the 4th century, when it was brought from Korea. It’s softness, flexibility and sturdiness were perfect to craft the armor of Samurai, which had to combine many different sections and required material that was strong, yet light and stretching enough to move around in. Although cow leather has mostly taken over, deer leather is still highly appreciated due to its soft touch and longevity. INDENYA’s craftsmen are all high-skilled, experience crafters who hand-made and inspect every single item before it leaves their warehouse.
