SET of 10 cards
He was a contemporary painter of Maruyama Ōryū, Ike Taiga, Yosa Bumura, and Ito Jakubu, and was active in Kyoto and Ise, but after the Meiji era, he was a forgotten and poorly regarded painter.
In 1968, he was featured in art historian Atsuo Tsuji's "Genealogy of Fantasy," and in recent years, he has been attracting renewed attention as a talented painter who stands out from the history of Edo period painting.
Many of Soga Shohaku's works were leaked overseas during the Meiji era, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, now has the largest collection.
