Rinpa

Named by the school for Rinpa, was created in the early Edo Period by Honami Kōetsu・Tawaraya Sōtatsu. The style was succeeded by the Ogata brothers Kōrin and Kenzan, Sakai Hōitsu and others.  A wide variety of motifs were included, from flowering plants, birds and wildlife to illustrated stories. The expression of using space boldly and the excellent decorativeness explain the popularity seen not only in Japan but also in a large number of fans from overseas.
