The name of the school that was started by Hon'ami Koetsu and Tawaraya Sotatsu in the early Edo period. It was taken over by Korin Ogata, Kenzan Brothers, and Sakai Hoitsu. The motifs range from flowers to birds and beasts to story paintings. There are many enthusiasts not only in Japan but also overseas for highly decorative expression techniques that boldly use space.
