Red Shiso (Perilla) leaves are a versatile ingredient, often used in the Asian kitchen. The leaves itself are a bit spicy with a hint of cinnamon and are very rich in calcium and iron. They are believed to contain cancer-fighting properties and help improve blood circulation. 

Due to their strong flavor and color, they are ideal to use for pickling, or to compliment dishes like sashimi and tempura. 

Grown in Kanagawa prefecture, these high quality shiso leaves are crumpled and preserved in ume plum vinegar. You can use them to color your pickled and to give them a nice shiso flavor. They can even be used to make your own umeboshi pickles! 
You can also enjoy them as they are - by carefully washing off some of the vinegar so the sourness is to your liking!
