Featuring the aesthetic and sensitive design that invokes the feel of Japanese ceramics, WASARA fits comfortably in the hand, with an elegant form and sturdy support. Those details are backed by Japanese craftmanship, excellent techniques of metallic molds, and the skills of trimming, which had never been used before in the paper tableware industry.
WASARA is also an earth-conscious product. As disposable tableware, a piece of WASARA can serve its purpose only once. Yet, it is made from non-wood renewable material; a mix of pulp of reed, bamboo and bagasse (sugarcane waste), and its fully biodegradable and compostable.
While WASARA is by design ephemeral, it represents the essence of Japanese tradition and spirit. It was designed by Shinichiro Ogata who established his own design firm and laboratory, SIMPLICITY, in 1998 with the goal of creating a new contemporary Japanese culture. He is the creative director of Wasara since 2006.
