ABOUT YOnoBI

The Japanese meaning of YOnoBI is beauty in practical objects made by craftsman. Japan is known for its wide variety of handicraft that has centuries of history. These crafts, such as porcelain, casting iron, Urushi lacquer ware, fabric dyeing,  woodwork and more, can be seen all over the country and each of them is unique in its own way. YOnoBI is the brand where such fascinating Japanese crafts converge with cutting edge contemporary design to fit our modern lifestyle.

Transforming Japan's Traditional Craft into a Global Standard

YOnoBI offers a wide range of products collaborating with a variety of Japanese traditional crafts. Every product is made by Japanese craftsman. YOnoBI aims to create a stage for traditional crafts and designers to collaborate and distribute products that meet the needs of global market. 

The YOnoBI Team consists of four key members who all have a strong design background.

  • Flexible Flower Vase Made of Japanese Lacquer "NEST"

    This vase consists of 8 disks finished with the finest Japanese lacquer. These movable disks allow to flexibly move the vase into different shapes. As seen from above it may well look like a bird's nest. It is designed by Akihito Fumita and handmade by Ken Tsutsujimori, who is one of the leading craftsmen for Kawatsura lacquer. For the NEST vase Tsutsujimori uses a highly advanced skill called Hananuri. NEST is made to order and it takes about 6-8 weeks until it ships.
  • Set of Japanese Lacquer Seasoning Containers "KAWATSURA NO SHATO"

    This set consists of a cubic containers. The design was inspired by the look of traditional Japanese lacquer bento boxes; other than the fact that they are piled diagonally. This unique shape was made possible thanks to magnetic force. Each cube can be used independently and all you need to do to pile them is to place them close to each other, so that they stick together by themselves. This seasoning set is not only beautiful but also highly functional.
  • Wooden Accessory Tray Coated with Japanese Lacquer "HOLLOW"

    This tray with hollows is a great help to keep your everyday items, such as glasses, pen, watch and accessories in one place. Each hollow is sand blasted by hand and square timber is inserted on both sides to prevent warping. The trays are coated with natural Japanese lacquer in the Echizen area, which is well known for the high quality of its lacquer. The HOLLOW tray is available in clear, ebony and tame.
  • Japanese Style LED Lamp made of Cedar Bentwood "GURURI"

    This lamp has been designed by Yukio Hashimoto - one of the leading figures in contemporary Japanese design. The unique shape of the GURURI lamp is possible through the traditional craft of Odate Bentwood that allows to bend thin slices of cedar. The LED of this lighting object creates a beautiful contrast of shadows. The lamp includes a stainless steel pipe that also works as a vase for a single flower.
