A lunch box that makes you feel happy

This lunch box designed by Makoto Koizumi, under the theme of "Making something fun and timeless with safe and secure urushi that is durable and has antibacterial properties".
The "gourd shape", which is made by carving out a block of Japanese white-bark magnolia, is difficult to process in detail, and can only be manufactured with the reliable technique and careful work of craftsmen. 

It has a moderate depth, so you can pack food more firmly than it looks. The main body is two tiered and one has a partition, so you can pack food separately. You can use it not only for lunch box but also for sweets etc. 
The finest wood grain is enhanced by applying the most basic "Fuki-Urushi" painting technique. Urushi is applied directly onto the wood that has been carefully prepared so as not to leave traces or dust, and before it dries, it is repeatedly wiped and dried with a cloth. The color of the urushi lacquer gradually becomes brighter as it is used, and the grain of wood appears more clearly, and the change is also beautiful.
