  • YAMATO KOBO (1957)

is a maker of contemporary Setta from the city of Nara - the center of Setta production in Japan. Their sandals are used by many high class Japanese hotels and inns. Different from traditional Setta, the SAKAGAWA Setta differentiate between the right and left foot by placing the thong at the most appropriate place, which makes them more comfortable to wear. Yamato Kobo still uses traditional production methods, but have improved their designs with cushions and shapes for maximum comfort and modern designs including tatami, synthetic leather, denim and hemp. Experience the comfort and sturdiness through these wonderful contemporary setta!

    Sizes
A size smaller than your actual foot size is recommended, as the setta are traditionally worn with the foot sticking out. Bigger sizes should be avoided when you are not used to wearing setta - your toes are supporting the weight of the sole and a larger setta would mean more burdun on your toes, making it harder to walk. If you do choose a larger model, avoid leather and go for a light-weight material.

    How to wear Setta

    • Allow your heel to slightly (1 to 3 cm) stick out over the setta heel.
When you wear a kimono, it regarded elegant to walk with very short, almost shuffling steps.
    • For formal wear, fit your toes in the hanao thong and wear the setta normally. For casual (Japanese) wear, fit your toes only loosely in the hanao and leave your heals of the setta.
    • The setta naturally adjust to the first wearer - so wear them properly from the start and do not twist the hanao.
    • Traditional styled setta do not differ between right and left. For this reason, the fifth toe often slightly hangs over the edge of the setta.  You can rotate the sides so no sole side wears down quicker than the other.
    • Although setta are made as a better alternative to geta and zori to walk over wet- or snow covered ground, they are not suitable to be soaked. Avoid rainy weather and be sure to dry them properly when they got wet, to avoid mold.
