Jakuchu Ito, Edo period, Sano City Yoshizawa Memorial Museum of Art

Sai Chu-fu (Vegetables and Insects)

Born and raised in a blue-backed fish wholesaler in Kyoto in the middle of the Edo period, this is the work of Jakuchu Ito, a painter who has been attracting more and more people in recent years.
Vegetables and fruits appear one after another in the first half, and small creatures such as insects and reptiles appear one after another in the first half as the scroll, which is less than 11 meters long, appears (about 100 kinds of vegetables and fruits, about 60 kinds of insects). .. From their humorous appearance, Jakuchu's gracious gaze can be felt.

  • The Benrido Atelier is a COLLOTYPE workshop based in Kyoto, Japan and has mastered the art style since 1887. Their beautiful designs make for amazing Japanese gifts, decorations and souvenirs. The printing requires the best materials, with quality ink and handmade Japanese washi paper, and experienced craftsmen are the only ones able to properly design the prints - Each individual step requires experience and eye for detail to create beautiful tones and to properly balance the pigment.

    Jakuchu ITO, (Jakuchu Ito)

From Kyohogen to Kansei 12 (1716 ~ 1800), he was born in Kyoto. He studied the Kano school alongside his family business, the wholesale business of green products, but at the age of 39 he handed over the family estate to his younger brother and began to devote himself to painting.

While studying ancient paintings of the Yuan and Ming dynasties and decorative paintings in Japanese and Chinese styles called the Korin school, he sketched animals and plants, and especially was good at paintings of chickens. He was called "a bizarre painter" due to his unique painting style.
