Setta is a traditional type of Japanese footwear that became popular in the 16th century as an alternative to the heavier wooden "Geta" and a more weather-resistant option over straw-made "Zori".
YAMATO KOBO is a maker of contemporary Setta from the city of Nara - the center of Setta production in Japan. Their sandals are used by many high class Japanese hotels and inns. Different from traditional Setta, the SAKAGAWA Setta differentiate between the right and left foot by placing the thong at the most appropriate place, which makes them more comfortable to wear.
With the introduction of Western shoe wear the popularity of traditional shoe wear diminished and they were only worn by Kabuki actors, Sumo wrestlers and occasionally by those wearing Kimono for an event. However, in recent years Setta, as well as Zori and Geta have made their re-entry, both in- and outside of Japan and are now combined with modern day fashion for a unique and authentically Japanese touch.
Yamato Kobo still uses traditional production methods, but have improved their designs with cushions and shapes for maximum comfort and modern designs including tatami, synthetic leather, denim and hemp.
Experience the comfort and sturdiness through these wonderful contemporary setta!
