The spoons made by Wajima Kirimoto (which is good at processing hollowed wooden cores) are very light and have a smooth feel in the hand. The craftsmen carefully prepare the wood using a tiny original plane. Then, diatomaceous earth collected from Mt. Komine in Wajima City that has been fired and made into a powder called Wajima jinoko is applied as a base coat, then it is polished, given a mid-coat, then a top coat. Lacquer coated spoons do not convey heat easily, therefore they do not become either too hot or cold. As it has a smooth feel on the mouth and the tongue, it even is suitable for kids and babies.
